Ola Ween holds a PhD in microbiology from
NMBU (2002) and a Master in molecular biology from University of Bergen (1996).
The PhD thesis focused on DNA-uptake and development of antibiotics resistance in
human pathogenetic bacteria. The master focused on endocrinology in Atlantic
Salmon by studying genetic regulation of hormones.
Following the fulfillment of the PhD, Ola
has worked as a postdoc in several research groups with projects focusing on
microbial toxins and food poisoning (Norwegian School of Veterinary Science),
genetic regulation of the hormone gastrin and development of stomach cancer
(Institute of Cancer Research and Molecular Medicine, NTNU) and cell-biology
(Institute of Biology, NTNU).
Ola has worked in research groups in the USA
(University of California, Riverside) and Germany with projects connected to
gene-expression and cell-biology. He was hired as a researcher for Møreforsking
in 2010 and is today the group leader of marine biotechnology.
The main work will be within the biomarine
field for added-value of marine raw-materials by the use of biotechnology.
Among others, the work will encompass chemical characterization, investigation
of bioactive components, optimization and further processing of
raw-materials.
